Scotchy Scotch Scotch: Celebrating my love of a single-malt
Scotch:
My junior year, I studied abroad at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Prior to that year, I was a bit of a teetotaler. I didn’t drink in high school and avoided it almost entirely until I lived in Scotland.
I guess when your first foray into alcohol is in a country known for its single malt scotch, you develop a bond that can’t be broken.
Now I find a nice sip of scotch to feel like home. The taste, the history, and the overall experience brings me a sense of peace.
And I want to continue to learn! So feel free to reach out if you want to talk scotch.
A few of my favorites
Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask
A regular go to for me. The mix of sweetness with just the tiniest bit of a bite, makes a great post dinner sipper. It’s not overly expensive, but costly enough that I’m encouraged to savor it.
Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Reserve
Smooth, a hint of sweetness, and a bottle that is another regular option for me. Aged in Sherry Casks, which influences the flavor. Easy to sip.
And if you want (to quote them) a “peaty slap”, this is for you. Sometimes, especially in the fall and winter, I love the deep smokey peat that comes from the Islay scotches. The LaPhroaig 10 year is an easy choice for this one.
